Judge supports trial in DUI death
On June 6, a suspected drunken driver in a van plowed into the back of a 1994 Oldsmobile that had stopped near the eastbound left lane of U.S. 24, just west of Constitution Avenue. The passenger in that car, which had stopped when a mattress fell off a truck in front of it, was killed.

County jail fire results in charges
Female inmates were moved into an outside area when a fire erupted early Monday morning in the Coffee County Jail. Coffee County Sheriff Dave Sutton said one female inmate intentionally set a mattress on fire, causing heavy smoke in the female jail area.

Toxic smoke fears in factory fire
A FIRE is raging through a Melbourne mattress factory, with nearby residents warned to stay away from the thick, black toxic smoke. At least three buildings are involved in the blaze, according to the Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB).
